if selling your car, how would you react if buyer used VAG-COM?
just to test the water really.
if you were selling your car, would you be happy to let a prospective buyer use VAG-COM to check for any diagnostic errors before they bought it?
i just wondered if was worth investing in a cable and software to use to aid the buying process?
so assuming you had nothing to hide, would you allow it?
would you be offended etc?
thanks :)

I'd be happy the car was going to another conscientious owner.
If you were offended, you'd clearly have something to hide.
and QUIZ!
Re: if selling your car, how would you react if buyer used VAG-COM?
I am happy for somebody to check a vehicle, but I do insist at my site that they are (and can prove it, normally by thier place of work) a qualified mechanic.
What you don't what is some idiot scrrewing up your car for you!
Re: if selling your car, how would you react if buyer used VAG-COM?
Have you had any one ask to use a Vagcom on one of your cars Martin?
I didn't know about the system when I got my A4 but I would probably consider doing so if I were to go for another.
Re: if selling your car, how would you react if buyer used VAG-COM?
Not Vagcom.
But I always advise prospective customers to get a car checked it makes life easier for me if they have a problem later. They are aware then that I had nothing to hide.
Makes for happy customers.

Okay so its not something everyone would do but if I had the kit I'd ask. Anything which gives an insight to the car can only be a good thing for the buyer.

Having not used VAGCOM before, am I right in assuming that there's nothing stopping an unscrupulous sort clearing all the codes out before any buyers checked it?

That's right, but you could always check after your test drive, by which time any faults should have returned
Re: if selling your car, how would you react if buyer used VAG-COM?
I would have thought that all the codes would have to be removed.
Otherwise historic data would clutter up everything, as well as the spoof gremlins that can appear.
The vehicle would then have to be run to see what problems were active.
I might be wrong though!

Ok so you type faster than me!!!!!
Re: if selling your car, how would you react if buyer used VAG-COM?
so it would be a good thing to test it before and after the test drive then.
(makes mental note)
i suppose if a code did appear after a test drive, it could be an indication of a dealer trying to be a bit "dodgy". however there could always be the coincidence that the fault genuinely first appeared during the test drive.
