Audi 80, Charge warning light
I have an Audi 80, V6, 1994.
I recently changed the alternator, and the voltage is good, charging at 13 - 14 volts. Problem is that the charge warning light will not go out on dashboard display.
Neither Audi or local Auto Electrical people can solve problem.
Has anyone any suggestions?
Regards
Nekochan.
Re: Audi 80, Charge warning light
Hi, if you take off the small wire on the rear of the alternator , see if the lamp is still on when key turned on, if so its picking up a pos from some where. if not theres still a prob with the alternator.
Re: Audi 80, Charge warning light
Attachment 1480Do not detach battery earthing strap; leave all plugs attached to dash panel insert.
Check supply voltage by connecting a voltmeter between positive input 1 and earth 2. Switch ignition on.
‒Specified value: approx. battery voltage
If specified value is not attained, locate open circuit using current flow diagram and rectify fault.
Check output voltage by connecting a voltmeter between positive output 3 and earth 2. Switch ignition on.
Specified value: 9,8 ... 10.4 V
If specified value is not attained, replace circuit board. The exciter wire from the alternator needs to be checked also at the dash as you may have a good charge rate at the alternator but the wire may be open circuit to the dash, hence the light on as no charge rate detected
Re: Audi 80, Charge warning light
I didnt say the earth strap ! i said the small wire ( dash lamp )
I am an auto electrical engineer.I know what ime talking about.
The big wire is a main pos + from battrey or to starter motor, this should be same as battery voltage.
The small wire is pos + when engine is NOT running,
And when engine is running ( been reved ) this becomes a neg -.
If the battery lamp is still on when this wire is disconected ( key on ) it is getting a pos + from some where else.
DO I MAKE MY SELF CLEARER NOW.:approve:
