ETKA only shows the M10xM8x73 N 909 055 02 for the Golf 4 PD TDI 2000>2003 engines.
Crasher are you able to tell if i have the m8 stud, its on the original t/b and rollers.
I an’t look up the numbers easily at home as I think the info on PartsLink24 is wrong and I only have ETKA at work. I don’t ever remember encountering the double M8 stud until doing a BKD cambelt for the first time and in those days we didn’t fit a new one as a matter of course; that came about when we started to hear about failures and even experienced one ourselves where the stud just snapped off flush with the head. Initially we would just fit a new M8 stud ordered separately and then they started to come in genuine kit but noticed a couple where you could feel the thread pulling, a feeling that is hard to describe but you will know if you have experienced it. We started to use Timeserts but didn’t really like the idea and then a later version of the dual size stud came out which worked with the slightly thicker tensioner, and then these started failing when not installed deep enough but we never had that. About a year ago we did the belt on a very early 8E A4 with a BRE and as the stud was removed, the thread came out with it so I attempted to tap it out to M10 but the metal was mush, it just would not tap. I then tried to tap it to M12 for an M10 Timesert and the metal just would not cooperate. In a final attempt I went to M14 and it tapped beautifully so I put in an M12 Timesertand an M10 inside that… then had a sit down! The car is a bit of a shed but I wanted to fix it and so far it has held but at MOT a few weeks ago there were a lot of problems including a leak at the back of the head which looks like the head gasket as it is below the tandem pump. I priced up doing an AMC head and he is thinking about it as he is very attached to the car and we did a total rear suspension subframe out rebuild and de rusted floor a couple of years ago so that area is perfect. The BKD that failed on us still hurts to this day and the picture is dated July 2008! Thankfully the owner of the car was in the motor trade and she could see it was a part of the original setup that had failed and at that time elsa said nothing about replacing it and they didn’t come in a genuine kit then so she paid for a new head; I was still furious with VW about it, we never had any problems with the M8/M10 stud and the full M10 stud used up until then we have still only replaced them on expensive gas flowed heads.
