Re: Any idea what this is for?
Are you just curious or is something not working? A complete guess but could be a connector for the light in the glovebox if you dont have a light fitted. To know for sure you'll need the wiring diagram for that exact model/year and possibly the car spec, the wire colours and plenty of time to look at them.
If you just want to know what its for, leave it alone
Re: Any idea what this is for?
What are the wire colours?
Re: Any idea what this is for?
Hi Crasher
the wire colours are brown and brown with white stripe I’m intrigued
Re: Any idea what this is for?
Brown is direct earth line 31 and brown/white earth line 31a and could be switched or from an ECU. I don’t recognise the plug, is there a part number on it? It will be tiny and may even lack the centre group numbers such as 973 and only show the first and last such as 6X0 802A for two pin plug 6X0 973 892 A, I need ETKA at work to look though the pictures of 2009 A3 2 pin plugs.
Re: Any idea what this is for?
That could have been me suffering from mechanics fat finger syndrome, remind me to tomorrow so I can look that up on ETKA and ELSA, do I have your VIN?
Re: Any idea what this is for?
My vin is WAUZZZ8P9AA086145
Did you get the private message i sent you with the part number of the plug? In case you didnt its 893 971 532
Re: Any idea what this is for?
Hi Crasher
you told me to remind you to look at ETKA and ELSA for me so consider yourself reminded
thanks again for your help

Re: Any idea what this is for?
Hi Crasher
just to let you know I've sold the mystery of that plug it was actually the glove box light where it fits into the damper thing so not only I have i solved that i have a glove box light that works
thanks again for all your help
Re: Any idea what this is for?
Hi Gareth
You were 100% right it was the glovebox light plugged it in and hey presto a glovebox light!
