3.0TDI High Pressure Fuel Pump
Hi all,
I have recently had the dreaded 'P0087 Fuel Pressure Low' DTC after the glow plug light came on, car went into limp mode, quit altogether and would not restart, all instantaneously.
I think I have it sourced to the HPFP as when I removed the control valve, there was tiny metallic grit. I have disconnected the belt and when grabbing the drive, it doesn't turn unless I apply a lot of strength. I 'm assuming this should spin freely. Is that correct?
Thanks in advance.

It takes a lot of resistance, are you sure it hasn't blow out an injector as that is the usual cause?
Re: 3.0TDI High Pressure Fuel Pump
Thanks for the reply Crasher! I had thought when disconnected the drive should turn by hand freely? Regarding the injectors, how would I check? I know when an injector is on it's way out, there's a knock/ticking sound but there was none of that beforehand.
