Crafter problem

Hi. I'm new to the forum. My crafter just developed a problem. Whilst I was driving there was a relatively loud screeching type noise that lessened over a couple of minutes, and when I pressed the clutch. The fan in the cab automatically kicked in and the coolant warning light came on. I couldn't stop immediately due to the lack of a save stopping place. When I did stop I found that the coolant was bubbling back into the reservoir. I had to get the van transported home. The engine now sounds excessively noisey but I can't determine where from. Very tappety sounding. I initially thought a belt might have snapped but no sign of that.
I know some of my description is a bit vague but hope someone may have an idea what has happened.
Can't get it looked at until the local mechanic re opens on the 9th Jan. That's one of the disadvantages of living in rural NZ 😄.
