Bluemotion Polo

A small change can make a big difference! was amused to see the bluemotion polo advert in Auto express - somebody at vw has had a really original brainwave about putting in longer gear ratios to improve fuel consumption! Wow what great idea little engine big gears? I wonder what size of tdi they will use- as i had a 1982 golf formel e (formula economy) = little engine big gears - it was awful even driving solo with no load it took an age to get up to speed and overtaking anything even a tractor was a serious proposition requiring about half a mile run-up and nerves of steel. We all want better economy but we still want to make rapid progress if required if large gear ratios are fitted is that possible? Twentyfive years and counting - progress definately takes time!

So you have driven one then?;)

Erm, there may be a few other modifications - superchargers and the like. At least VW is attempting to overturn the myth of turbocharged petrol engines being inefficient. Hats off to the engine design team for trying.

If you want grunt get a bigger engine, but it will be more hungry!


Now how do i push up that turbo boost without increasing piston skirt mixed lubrication wear?
Simple just fit an Allison A250 turbine helicopter engine! ;-)

ahh, i wondered what the' formel e ' was all about years ago when i drove a polo c formel e saloon.
and i found it quick for what it was,
the gears seemed well spaced and when wound up she'd run out of numbers on the clock , mind u they only went up to 95:D
