2009 passat cc headlight problems
Ok so my cc headlights were terrible when i test drove it, the seller raised them a bit before i collected it and when i got home i parked up against my favorite wall and got the dipped beam fairly bang on turning the allen adjuster but the full beam were pointing completely skyward blindind owls and the like. this was all i could do as the high beam is no seperately adjustable.
fast forward to today and i turn on my headlight only for them to have a throw of about 3 feet in front of the car, no idea why so i said id wind them up again but they maxed out well short of where they need to be? the cannot go any higher which is in fact lower than they were when i focused them the first time.
also the switch in the dash has stopped work for the electronic adjustment.
any body have any ideas? im guessing ill need two new headlights?
thanks
Re: 2009 passat cc headlight problems
So it has conventional halogen lights?
Re: 2009 passat cc headlight problems
Sorry i forgot to mention they are halogen yes! 3x h7 bulbs.
anyway so i managed to adjust the high beam down to there lowest setting by using a flat head and pushing on it and moving the threaded section of it back, very rudimentary i'm surprised they didn't break 😂.
they were still too high but alot closer to the mark and out of the blue it seems the motors inside headlight started working and both headlights dipped beams settled at maximum height, i imagine i annoyed a lot of drivers on my journey home as i was flashed a lot! my dip beam was now throwing as far as a full beam.
i set both dipped beams via the hex adjuster to the correct height and both high and low beam are at the correct height now. brilliant i can see the road now at night but it doesn't explain why this happened and if it will happen again.
any ideas?
Re: 2009 passat cc headlight problems
Just incase anyone is having a similar problem, as once again it happened and i had again one dipped headlight signalling ufos the other pointing at the first foot of tarmac in front of the car lighting the way for weary hedgehogs and the like.
this is a bit of a bodge (temporary fix) but the headlight pointing upwards responded to the adjuster switch on the dash luckily so i put it too setting No 3 and there was just enough in the hex adjuster on the rear of the both headlights to focus the dipped beams! i then pulled the two fuses from the interior dash fuse box. they haven't budged since! so basically now its set and forget for me. im somewhat annoyed as they were perfectly set full and high beam as per my previous post before the gremlins came out to play again!
P.S looking at the rear of my headlights where the the bulbs go in on the near side headlight it is badly melted so the solution in my case would be new headlight units. the previous owner had some cheap aftermarket L.E.D bulbs fitted which i have a suspicion along with a wire shoved into the fuse no 8 on the fuse board which may have caused this problem to begin with.
