DPF on 2003 Toledo?

I have a 2003 Toledo 1.9 TDi 110Bp registered on 19/09/2003.

It has just failed it's MOT at the local SEAT dealers, I can sort everything out myself except "Exhaust on a vehicle fitted with a diesel particulate filter emits visible smoke of any colour (8.2.2.2 (d))", but as far as I know it doesn't have a DPF, I'm not even sure it was an option back then and there is no DPF icon in the instrument panel.

How can I find out if it has one, or failing that if it was even an option back then? Any help would be appreciated.

It wasn’t even an option although there is the tiny possibility of a retro fit but I would be shocked. Possibly the tester has clicked the wrong box.

I didn't think it was an option that early, and if it was a retro fit surely it isn't a legal requirement and can be removed.

It's a SEAT dealers so you'd think they'd know what they're doing but they definitely didn't check the wrong box as they told me over the phone that's what it was and spent time getting me a quote to replace it, a quote so high it wrote the car off. I've cancelled the insurance, declared it off road and spent the week searching for new car but now I'm thinking they've made a huge mistake. It also failed on emissions, but if they thought it had a DPF maybe they used the wrong standards, and I could try a fuel additive anyway.

You can follow this link & appeal the MOT failure with the DVSA :-

You may have to take the car to one of their sites for re-test, in which case you will need to re- insure it.

It might just be easier to take the car to an MOT station that knows what they are doing, then take up a refund claim with the Seat garage.

Thanks, I'd already seen that site but I wanted to get my facts straight before I started any official proceedings. I've read on other forums for other makes that they should be able to tell me exactly what options were taken with the car if I give them my VIN so I think I'll ring up tomorrow and find out for certain whether they think it has a DPF and go from there. It'll cost me money that I'm not certain to get back to re-insure it and test it somewhere else and I think they'll be likely to be cooperative to avoid any official complaints etc.
