Another A6 Electric handbrake issue

Hi all.

The title is one i have used before on this site. A kind member has offered me the use of his VCDS as in the post.
However he has said he only uses it for fault codes, so myself and him have no clue on how to use it. As to my post, i have a parking brake issue and only have carrista for my fault code finding/resetting. I am getting fault codes 02432 and 02433, these came about when i last changed the pads ( i forgot to use battery charger ) have since bought 2 electric handbrake modules as i thought were plug and play, both communicated with the car ok, as in the message please press brake pedal to release handbrake. But i have tried using carrista to wind the motors back, all i am getting now is a big red flashing handbrake sign plus a droning sound when i drive.

Question is as i dont believe that both sides of the wiring harness can be damaged to get the codes above, i have a print out of the VCDS basic function tests, but i dont know how to use VCDS to do the basic tests ,could someone post a how to do ?

Have read on numerous posts on line that any swap of the brake ecu needs this.
And also have i damaged the other 2 modules? or will VCDS fix this?
Getting a bit worried now as mot is coming up, i need this fixing

Yes it does , thank you , although now, as part of the video says do something wrong and the module can fail. Having tried to open and close the pistons last night using carista i have the big red flashing parking brake sign on dash, did not have this before i tried.

Check that the caliper harnesses have been changed for the later ones, these have a solid moulded plug rather than a plastic plug with a rubber boot; I have noticed a few cars that have slipped through unmodified. If it has the later plugs it may be a modified car and the quality of the spicing into the original harness can vary.

Plastic and rubber boot :(

Yes, these are VERY prone to water ingress corrosion failure, I think it was a workshop campaign at one point and only the early cars had them.

Any ideas on where to start looking for the corrosion? have a multi meter and a test lamp

It will be in the crimp terminals in the plugs, the wires turn to blue dust and you can’t buy the pins or if you break it, the plug; the correct procedure is to fit the repair harnesses with moulded sealed plugs at £104.52 per side. There are three different pre 2007 versions and are handed left and right.
