Golf mk6 gt tdi radio/ipod

Just bought a 2009 golf gt with an mp3 radio/cd player also has an ipod adaptor in the centre console/arm rest..... but, can't get the radio to recognise an aux? Pressing cd button just says no cd doesn't go to aux. I was wanting to remove the ipod dock and just have an aux jack so I can connect my phone? I have bought from a car sales garage but due to dealerships being closed the main dealer he bought it from hasnt sent him the handbooks or the full history???? So I await its sending when he gets them from the dealership... so I'm told!
Is it just a case of unplugging the ipod dock and using that connection to swap for aux or do I need into the back of the head unit?
