New Phone , No Data, help!

I seem to be going through a bad patch with Tech at the moment?

Just got a new Android phone, Huawei P30-Pro and trying to connect to the car.
Bluetooth access to phone went straightforward calling, texts, contacts all fine.
Problem started when trying to establish data connection via Bluetooth tethering, it just won't have it!

A pal told me it is because my new phone is not capable of supporting rSAP ???
I just assumed all new phones would be ok??

Has anybody else had similar problems?
Did you sort it out?
Is there another way to use my phones data connection?

Is the only way forward to get the car it's own sim card
( didn't really want to go down this route as I'm now retired and dont use car full time everyday so not sure if this would be cost effective, any views?)

Don't really want to tell the boss I've wasted our money on a new useless phone!!

No idea on getting connection to current phone working, but if you end up with a different SIM then sharing data between it and your regular one may alleviate some of the challenges: Best family SIM deals - Cheaper deals and data sharing - treat the car as a "family member".

A8, your car look a lot newer that mine (2016) so don't recognise any of your listed options. Thanks all the same.

Vag-Abound, Thanks for the suggestion, some one else has pointed me to a data only Sim Card for the car.

Company = Three
preloaded with 24GB of data valid for 24 Months and costs £60.

Can't see the car using any more than 1Gb a month and a cost of £2.50p a month doesn't sound too bad to me.

That sounds the best solution if I can't get my new phone to link its data use to the car.

And it saves face with her in doors!

I'll hang fire a few days to see if any solutions emerge from the community.

My previous car was A7 2016, which shares the same technology as yours, and again I had a sub menu in my phone, Bluetooth connection, where I could chose: Car phone, Handsfree, or player. Sometimes the phone when connects to the car, goes to Handsfree only, and in this case no data, so I had to go and manually choose Car Phone, which is rSAP to get data. Then I connect via the WIFI to send back data to my mobile, and all good.

I had a similar option on my old HTC phone but nothing on my new Huawei P30-Pro , it seems my new phone does not support rSAP

I'll have another go and play with car and let you know how I get on.

Could be because most new Huawei are not running the standard Android, due to Americans temporary ban( Trump for you).

Is your phone dual band by any chance?..defo related SIM ACCESS PROFILE ..I had an Audi Specialist (fresh from Training in HQ Germany )

Tell me that Audi have stopped supporting it and mandatory require a SIM in the glove box due some new rules..

It was all a load BS.. I changed/upgraded my phone ..

No more issues..

Finally accepted that Bluetooth was a no no due to no rSAP

Could get it working via wifi hotspot but a bit of a faff, and drains the battery.

Managed to find the "3" 24GB 24Months data sim for £43.99 on Fleabay!

£22 a year for hassle free data connection seems a bargain to me.

Ordered today, will let you know how I get on.

Getting a cheap SIM card is half the solution which is good..i thought the issue was getting the phone you have to work...
