1st and Reverse gear very hard to shift when car warmed up vw cc passat

Hi there newbie here.
I am experiencing gear selector issues with 1st and reverse only with my VW Passat 170 GT Manual 6 speed 2010 but ONLY when its warm.
If the car is cold I have no issues although the gear stick does seems slightly stiff from when I first got it all the time from left to right when in neutral.
I have 140k on the clock and I have added 60k of those via motorways mostly.
At first I noticed the gear selector seemed to be a little stiff but didn't think much of it as it wasn't used must and still isn't at present.
This has now developed into a issue but only with the lower gears. If I am able to engage a lower gear when the car is hot it selects it and is fine but if it gives resistance I'm not going to force it and never have. I have taken it to a local garage and they greased up the linkage and said it seems ok for no cost and said next step will be costly and involve the gear box - Yikes.
Any advise would help please.

Welcome to the forum. Probably best posting in the vw section to get more replies. Try the golf or Audi a4 section as they will have the same engine too.
