Navigation night mode

I've read elsewhere that the MMI day/night function is controlled by the exterior lighting sensor
I've noticed on my new A6 that the navigation is switching to night mode too soon, at least for my liking
Is it that the navigation day/night function is also controlled by the exterior lighting sensor?
Do I just need to adjust the auto headlight setting to late instead of the current setting of medium?
This wasn't an issue on my last A6 so I can only assume that the default was better judged
