B8 Avant Quattro Diagnoses
On my 2011 model A4 Avant Quattro I have two symptoms which I hope someone here can help me to diagnose.
1. As I brake gently towards a standstill, at the last moment the brake pedal rises slightly and unless I also raise my foot, the braking becomes heavier bringing the car to a more sudden stop than planned. Otherwise the brakes are good and do not judder to any significant extent. The front discs and pads were replaced within the last 20,000 miles and the rear discs and pads were replaced within the last 30,000 miles.
Prior to this symptom appearing, there was an unusual glitch: while driving slowly in town the car gave a hiccup and the handbrake warning light came on. When I stopped after a short drive, the engine would not switch off until I pressed and held the ignition key for several seconds. When I restarted the engine and drove on, the warning light had extinguished and has not reappeared and the only brake symptom is that which I have described above.
2.After the glitch mentioned above, there is a jerkiness on overrun which may in some way be related.

I removed the rear offside wheel and disconnected the ABS sensor cable and the plug and socket looked fine, so I reconnected the cable.
A scan taken today after having deleted the fault codes and driven the car shows no brake or ABS fault codes.
Has anybody a reasonable suggestion as to what has happened or what I should check next?

Your fault log shows " 00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46)
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent - MIL ON "
It reports the fault as INTERMITTENT, so I would guess that the signal from that sensor is just on the edge of failing.
When the wheel is turning slowly ( as you are coming to a stop ) the signal is at its lowest, so intermittently triggering this code.
This will activate the ABS as it will see it as the wheel locking giving you a weird feeling in the brake pedal & sharp stop.
It could be the sensor or the ABS ring.

Thanks. That accords with my guess as to what may be wrong and causing the brake anomaly. The jerky running on overrun does not seem to be related though.
