Audi Q7 Rear taillights not working in bootlid but work in rear bumper. Possible Tow mode? No errors with VCDS or ODIS
Hi, I got an Audi Q7 2016. The rear taillights on the boot lid do not work. However the ones in the rear bumper do. I have attached a picture below for clarity. The red circled lights do not work. The green circled lights work.

I have removed the lights and tested in another car and they work. I have checked the wiring and power is reaching the lights. I get no error messages on the car telling me the lights do not work. the rear tail lights work when i lock the car and the indicator lights work to show the car is locked. on no other occasions do the lights work. I have scanned the car and I get no errors with VCDS or ODIS. VCDS scan below

With VCDS the Central Conv. module cannot be reached. However with ODIS the Central Conv. module can be read and comes back no errors. Any ideas as to why the rear tailights might not be working? My mechanic thinks the car may be in tow mode. However he has no clue how to disable and there is no tow bar on the rear of the car as well. Any help much appreciated.

With VCDS the Central Conv. module cannot be reached. However with ODIS the Central Conv. module can be read and comes back no errors. Any ideas as to why the rear tailights might not be working? My mechanic thinks the car may be in tow mode. However he has no clue how to disable and there is no tow bar on the rear of the car as well. Any help much appreciated.
Bumper lights work when the trunk is open. In the same time taillights are switched off. It seems that the car reads that the lid all the time is open and changes the lights management. Did you check the trunk lock? Some sensors probably don't send the signal that the trunk is closed. In my opinion tow bar has nothing common with rear lights management. Good Audi electrician should solve the problem fast.

i was thinking the tailgate lock sensor may be faulty. however surely i should get a fault code if that is the case?

Not necessarily. Sensor sends 2 signals: open or closed. Both are correct. If it sends "open" it not recognise as a fault code. I would ask electrician to read the signal from the lid sensors when the trunk is closed. If the lid is closed and the sensor sends "open" here is the problem.

Check also one more thing: trunk space lighting. If these inner lights are on when the trunk is closed it would mean faulty sensor. I am assuming that it could be the same sensor for inner and outer lights but I am not sure in 100%. This could be one more step to recognise the problem.

I’m fairly sure we have seen this problem a while back and it’s on here somewhere - think it was related to the boot lid locking mechanism
