Ecu compatability
Hi,
newbie to the forum looking for some advice regarding Ecu compatibility.
My B7 1.6 tdi estate is currently in the vw dealers needing a new Ecu.
Have been quoted £1500 for a new one but I am trying to source a replacement first.
Initially tried ecutesting but they informed me that my ecu was of a type they couldn’t repair.
I have found an ecu on eBay with the exact part number but from a caddy.
so long as the part number is correct will this be compatible with my car?
or compatible enough for the dealer to configure it to my car?
Thanks,
graeme.

Re: Ecu compatability
My question would be how do you know the ebay ECU is a goodun.
If yours cannot be fixed why could the replacement.
I had exactly the same issue with my last Audi. For the princely sum of £11 I bought a supposedly working ECU (same year/spec etc) off ebay and it did not work.
The car was only worth less than £1000 so I scrapped it.
Have you also contacted the ECU Doctor ref repair.

Re: Ecu compatability
the one on eBay is off an accident damaged caddy with pics of the damage.
I have already attempted to get it repaired with ecutesting.com and been informed it is not a type that can be fixed.
So I am willing to take a punt on it so long as someone with a bit of knowledge can confirm that so long as the part no is correct it can be installed in my car.
