Passat not starting!
Passat 1.6 tdi. Car will not start or crank over and displays "engage clutch" message. It will start no problem if bumped. There are no fault codes. The sensor/ switch at top of clutch pedal was replaced but no different. Mechanic has not seen this problem before. Has anyone any ideas?? Thanks.

Re: Passat not starting!
The clutch position sensor is on the master cylinder in the engine bay and it’s design was changed on the 12/10/14 due to reliability problems, which part number switch did he fit?

Re: Passat not starting!
Sorry my mistake. It is fitted at master cylinder. I don't know part no but a new one was fitted and the car started for several days but then went back to not starting. At the same time this was fitted the dash started to display handbrake fault(orange light).
Mechanic has nowreplaced master cylinder and h/brake light is off but car still not starting. Still no fault codes.

Re: Passat not starting!
He needs to check the live data to the start authorisation to see if it is showing the pedal is depressed.

Re: Passat not starting!
I take it the mechanic will need vagcom? His diagnostics is snap on.

Re: Passat not starting!
Just to update this for future readers..car hooked up to vagcom and no problems showing. According to the laptop the car is behaving as normal even though it doesn't start. So in the end the mechanic connected a starter button to starter and placed into the dash.

Yip a bodge alright but it works every time so my papa is a happy man. Cars getting sold next month anyway, new one coming. He didn't want to throw any more money at this one.
