03 Sharan TDI Fault codes
Have been asked to look at my brothers 2003 Sharan TDi 1.9 PD the faults are
1. The Brake fault Stop warning keeps coming up on the dash also low brake pad warning. The front inner pads are worn down to the pad sensor which I think is the low pad warning but why should it also say brake fault? Does this brake fault stop warning come on if you ignore the low pad warning?
2. Smoke which we belive is coming from the auxillary rear heater exhaust and two fault codes are showing;-
01409 REPEATED FLAME INTERUPTION PRESENT
01407 FLAME STOP PRESENT MALFUNCTION
Reading through the previous similar posts the aux heating is pretty unreliable and I see the heater plug can give problems could these fault codes be related to this.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Re: 03 Sharan TDI Fault codes
Hi. I have an 02 Alhambra 1.9. In the threeand one half years I have had this, the brake warning stop light has tripped twice. Each time it has been down to a faulty brake switch. On each occasion the brake lights do not illuminate when you press the foot brake, or only when you really pummell the pedal. Could be worth checking this, and getting a fault code check. Its apparently (so I am told) a common fault
Low brake pads will cause the other fault, but it may also be worth checking the remaining thickness of the disc. I had to replace my front discs at around 39000 miles because they had worn down to the minimum. If they are getting near it makes sense to change them at the same time as you put new pads in.
Cheers
Re: 03 Sharan TDI Fault codes
Thanks for the info the on the brake switch I will check if the lights come on as the fault is getting more often.
Anyone else throw any light on the aux heater codes?
Re: 03 Sharan TDI Fault codes
Thought I would give you an update on the faults
Replaced the front brake pads and the BRAKE FAULT STOP has not occured for 2 weeks my brother now tells me the BRAKE PAD LOW warning has been showing for 3 months so maybe the car decided to get a bit more serious with its warnings !
Sharan went into dealers as my brother took it in when still under warranty for smoke coming from the aux heater but the mechanics could find no fault with their diagnostics machine so they gave him the car back but he rang VW who said they had logged the fault so if it occured again they would have a future record.
Car was taken to dealers last week and the heater plug diagnosed as faulty VW agreed to pay for labour but he has to pay for the part (£60) he is now arguing if the fault was diagnosed last year he would not have had to pay £60 as it was under warranty.
So lets hope he can get somewhere with the dealers or VW.
