B7 digital display mph reading in kph
Hi
I have a 2012 TDI estate with a m/f/s and the digital speed display in the box between the rev & speedo is showing the speed in Kilometres and i would like it to display in miles.
Have tried toggling the menus to no avail so any suggestions / pointers would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Jonny
Re: B7 digital display mph reading in kph
This subject has been discussed over on the Skoda Forum. If I recall the answer, UK VAG vehicles do not have the function to change the MFD digital reading to mph. Because the speedo is only MPH (no Km/h numbering) if the vehicle is driven in a country where km/h are the norm, by their laws, there MUST be driver information in kM/h.
Re: B7 digital display mph reading in kph
Its a simple change on VCDS to ROW from GB then it's changeable on the MFD and can display either KM/H or MPH

I've got VCDS but I'm by no means expert at using it.
I'd like to have a digital mph display but I do an annual France trip when the kph display comes in handy
You say that by changing the settings i can then have a switchable option in the MFD?
Could you give me a bit more info on the VCDS actions, a bit of a step by step please?

Hi Stu,
The VCDS part is really easy to do
Go to:
17-Instruments
Coding - 07
Long Coding Helper
Bit4-7 (should have a drop down box) set to 10 Rest of World (RoW)
Close the long coding helper and select Do it!
Select No if you get a pop up message - VCDS to try the values currently in the module
Thats all the VCDS part
Now on the MFD you need to do the following:
Uncheck tick box for Alt. Speed dis
Go to MFD Data and you should now have the option of Digit. Speed - Check this box
From memory once this is done you can change the big digital read out under Units option on MFD from MPH to KM/h
Let me know if you need any more help i can always go through it again on mine if it doesnt work for you.
Good Luck
For some reason it wont let me upload the pictures i took. Ill try again later

Like I say any problems let me know, more than happy to help.
Worked on all cars I’ve done it to, Polo, Golf, Sharan, Tiguan, Passat
Never understood why uk cars had to have a read out in kph 😳
Also while you are in that same section of coding, I enabled instrument test (I think it’s called) does needle sweep on startup 🙈 boy racer in all of us!

They have to have kmh because they can be driven on la continent where cars must have a speedo reading in that countries road speed specification.

Well obviously it's necessary for driving on the continent!
The point was more why do all of them come locked to show kmh when most miles in a UK car is in mph and you can't select mph without the use of VCDS and if you ask VW dealer they say it's not possible
Once changed to Rest of World spec with VCDS you get the choice of mph or kmh.
UK cars don't come with headlamps conforming to driving on the right hand side it's a choice on xenon equipped cars to change between the two so why don't they do it with the Speedo!
