Diagnostic Socket?
Dear All, can anybody help? I have a Passat 1989 with a PB engine. Does it support a diagnostic option? If yes, where do I find the socket, and will it be of the two plug type or an OBD type?
Your help either confirming this option isn't available on this year, or to find the output socket, will be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
davidsds.

Re: Diagnostic Socket?
No the PB has no diagnostic abilities. On the type 31 the diagnostic sockets would be under the gear lever boot holding trim which just lifts up. You will likely find a small black two pin plug in there which most type 31’s had as if they had the PF, 9A, 2E or AAA engine which did have diagnostics they had another white plug and if they had ABS that also had blue diagnostics plug with one wire. To read these systems you need the so called OBDII to VAG 2x2 adapter but VCDS cannot read some of the very early systems so I still have my old system from the 90’s which will read flash codes and very early OBD systems.

Thank you, I feared that to be the case!

Re: Diagnostic Socket?
However, is there any way of extracting any recorded DTCs from the ECU of a Passat PB engine of this age?

No, they have no fault code abilities.
