Strange noise
Hi
Any idea what might cause a strange bonging / spronging sound at low speed? It seems to be with movement of the suspension; or more properly with speeding up or slowing down.
It sounds like something coming into contact with the fuel tank, something loose in the tank, or a spring.
I did have a brief look underneath the car but couldn't see anything obvious.
It does seem to be more towards the right rear of the car.
Also, the handling seems to have got worse recently; it doesn't seem to enjoy rh bends very much. Combined with the noise, it could be suspension related but the springs look OK... does a Bora have a rear anti-roll bar? I don't have a Haynes manual.
I think I'm going to have to get underneath but I'm currently off work with a back injury, my wife is using the car (as hers uses twice as much fuel!), I don't have any axle stands, and it's snowing...
Thanks for any ideas! You people are usually spot on with diagnosing stuff.

Re: Strange noise
Broken springs are very common on the PQ34 (Golf 4/Bora/Leon & Octavia 1 etc) platform. One of my lads serviced my Octavia 1 this afternoon and the nearside rear looks about to go so I will do a pair from Suplex, the only non genuine spring company I will use.

Thanks, it did turn out to be a spring.
