Researching A6 C7 (ground clearance, NAV, gearbox)
Planning to buy used A6 C7. From 2014 and lower than 90 000km (so that I would have at least some of factory warranty for a year)
Was reading here in the forum for a while (went through 27 pages so far :) )
What is a A6 C7 ground clearance? Google found that its 165mm and another place 145mm, here on the forum someone wrote 170mm.
I am driving A4 B8 (avant) and it is pretty low, maybe once a month we take a trip to the country, (woods, mountains, snow) and it barely makes it. Even considered Q5, but its basically same A4 so dont want that.
Different suspension setting does not mean lower or high car? Only Allroad with Air suspension that can adjust the height?
Also found one A6 for sale (2014, low mileage), but salesman says it doesnt have navigation, thus lower price. But there is a nav button and "shark fin" on the roof. Where there A6 without the navigation or is it just somekinda problem that could be fixed by reinstalling maps etc?
After trying to find weak points here on the forum, the one thing that is almost most important is the gearbox. :) Which gearbox is most reliable?
I personally would go for manual, but there is almost nothing to choose from, so it have to be automatic. Should I stay away from Stronic?
I am a grown up driver, speed is not a factor for me. Most important is reliability and smoothness, so that i can sit and relax.
Thank you for advice.
Re: Researching A6 C7 (ground clearance, NAV, gearbox)
U.K. spec cars had 3 different suspension option and air suspension. There was the comfort(se spec) which was the highest, sline then sline sport. That’s probably why you are finding 3 different heights.
Nav was standard on all spec. Rmc with small screen and the mmi 3g/4g with big screen but this wasn’t the case in all countries.
From 2014 onwards all automatic were stronic unless you got the bitdi.
I’ve had 2 stronic cars and not had bother with them but I don’t tow or go off road.
Re: Researching A6 C7 (ground clearance, NAV, gearbox)
Careful with the nav, whilst UK spec cars have had it as standard this thread shows that other countries may not. This gent is from Sweden, so maybe a similar situation in Norway:
MMI RMC_EU_P4321 install navigation

The s tronic is the best! Goes forever and can take loads of torque, the multironic I have heard bad things about ...
Re: Researching A6 C7 (ground clearance, NAV, gearbox)
They don't do the multitronic anymore. The options are s tronic or tiptronic. The s tronic needs a service every 38,000 miles. The tiptronic is supposedly sealed for life but needs an oil change at between 80-100,000 miles. They both seem reliable but some extra cost to service the s tronic.

The OP is looking to buy a 2014 car so that would be pre-facelift and therefore (given he is also considering a manual) it is likely that some of the cars under consideration will have multitronic

Well that's what my budget allows, there is quite big difference here in Norway between pre-facelift and facelift. 2014 year and 2015 year difference is 5000GBP though 2014 has 20 000km lower mileage, 13hp more. :)
Yes I would prefer manual, but chances of finding one are so low that I do not even consider this idea.

I suppose to change oil in tiptronic costs more than changing oil in S-tronic twice?
Re: Researching A6 C7 (ground clearance, NAV, gearbox)
The service cost in uk is £225 for s tronic over 3 years old (fixed price servicing). I think the price of the tiptronic at a ZF specialist is about £350 so about half the cost if you go near the 100000 miles.
