Clutch judder

I have recently purchased my first Audi A6 avant black edition and all was well until I noticed a clutch judder when pulling off in 1st gear. It wasn't present in the first 4-5k miles when I got the car however after a recent hour long stop start traffic jam it has become a lot worse. It's the facelift 2015 model 2.0 190tdi manual model which had 39k on the clock when I purchased it and is still under warranty.
I have tried to read into the issue but I am confused about what to do for the best. I have been told that the dealer will require £1000 to investigate and then charge the earth if not covered by warranty. Do I take it to an independent specialist and have the issue fixed by them cheaper? Any idea of the costs I'll be looking at so I can break the news gently to my wife? The car was purchased from a trader and not a main dealer so I'm guessing they won't be particularly interested in any good will offering.
Im hoping to get the problem solved sooner rather than later because at the minute it's put me off the car altogether which is a shame because it's a lovely vehicle.

You will find that this is a common issue with manual cars if you search on the forum.
I don't see how a dealer could ask for that sort of money to just investigate but in any case, just equip yourself with the available info and, given the car is in warranty, insist they sort it out.

As Johnny31 said, this is very common on A6s. My 2012 2.0tdi 177 does it occasionally but not very often and I've adapted my driving style to cope; I can feel it starting to go so dip the clutch and give it a tiny bit more gas. Not ideal but it's now out of warranty and isn't so frequent that I can't live with it!

I was chatting to a tech from my local dealer a few months ago and he admitted they'd changed quite a few A6 clutches under warranty for juddering. If you do want something done about it, insist it's done FOC under warranty and point out it's a common issue. However, even if you do get the clutch replaced, don't be surprised if the juddering starts up again after a few thousand miles - others have reported this happening!

At £1000 that pretty much pays for new clutch and flywheel.
If your car has a full dealership history it wouldn't matter who you bought it from if you are looking for goodwill towards the repair.
Unfortunately problems will dual mass flywheels have been around for 10-20 years for all brands and it's the same with now as it was then.
Some folk are lucky and don't get problems and some do. It all depends on who and how it's been driven. My old golf lasted 120k before showing symptoms but know some have had problems at less than 10k.

If its a faulty dual mass flywheel (sounds like it is) then that should be replaced under warranty, the problem seems to be getting the dealership to admit that's what it is. Mine was all replaced completely foc on my previous car with no fuss, but there are plenty on here who have had major struggles and battles with audi and the dealerships. This is a very common and well known problem. Good luck.

Issue sounds like a flywheel alright. I had to change it in VW CC at 100k mls. I did clutch at same time. No point changing only one piece.

Interesting thing is that I drove courtesy A4 2017 with 15k mls it was already giving flywheel symptoms. Gearstick was vibrating like mad, same vibration on clutch pedal. Flywheel will die quicker if you do a lot of town driving. It should last longer if you do more motorway miles.
After changing flywheel and clutch on my old CC I did 60k mls without any problems but I do 80% of motorway driving.

I have exactly the same fault, judder in 1st gear since 20,000 miles, now on 42,000 and still the same. Audi offered to investigate under warranty informing me there would be a charge of around a thousand pounds for stripping down the clutch IF it turned out to be something Not covered by warranty such as hot spots on the clutch. They stated it would likely be the DMF. I decided not to take the gamble.
I know of others who did and got a huge bill for clutch and Flywheel.
The local indie can do a new clutch and DMF for about 1350 so if it eventually fails I'll get it done there instead.
The thing I don't understand is that occasionally the clutch is fine and I would assume that a faulty DMF would cause judder all the time?

Don't Audi do fixed price clutch change for about £800? Be cheaper to get it done under that option once its over 3 years old

That probably doesn't include the flywheel which is the bit that's broken. A lot of these have a clutch plate that's got plenty of meat left in them but it's false economy not to replace that too when the gearbox is open.

Yeah I understand that, just thought they would of priced for the whole job, still might be worth a call and see if its for the complete job, flywheel, clutch kit etc. Shy kids and that
