Cheapest genuine VCDS genuine with 3 available slots is £225. That guarantees you a genuine cable and online support. The latest cable is HEX-V2 which reads cars from 1996 to present. Any previously used cable is not supported. You can of course pay $99 to VCDS to re-register it. I'd avoid anything off Ebay or Gumtree.
