Being a newbie, can anyone give me info on mod chips?
I have a 2.5tdi on an a late 2001. Drives excellent, just wondering what, if anything would I achieve by chipping it?

I have a Dec 1999 150 bhp 6 speed manual and felt the bottom end torque was not as good as my old 140 bhp 5 cyl so fitted Inmotion (Austria) chips (ebay germany).
This is a two chip change not just the one which is often what is done. Cost just over £100 plus carriage but very tricky to remove the old chips and fit new chipholders without damaging the circuit board, best only done by someone very experienced in unsoldering and soldering electronic equipment. Claimed result is bhp to 190 and torque from 310 to 400 Nm. To drive it is definitely a lot quicker but the most noticeable is the way it pulls and accelerates in 6th. A hill where I needed 5th it copes easily in 6th. They also claimed a saving in fuel but so far it has remained the same as before. What the long term increase in engine wear may be if any we will have to wait and see.

Michael
Thanks for the info, sounds tempting!

Mark, what could you do for my 2.8 then?
I'm going to get the supercharger for mine - is it worth getting a remap or chip?
It's a 97 ACK motor.
I'll need to check up on the supercharger but I was led to believe it's pretty much a bolt on number designed specifically for the 2.8?
Thanks Mark, I'll be in touch shortly.
Hi
I used superchips for the chip in my MK5 Golf 2.0 TDI
The review of a Golf with a chip fitted to it, pursuaded me, the results afterwards were very pleasing, quite expensive though
