a4 1.8 turbo

hello, im new here site looks like it could solve a problem for me..

ihave just had a new oil pump fitted as no oil was getting to the right places, now the problem has gone and another has popped up!

the turbo doesnt seem to be working if i drive the car sensibly it drives fine, if i put my foot down it has no power and i can here a sort of whiney noise, also i put a new breather pipe on which is located at the top and to the reat of the cam shaft. there was no smoke (that i observed)

also is the car safe to drive? as i have a nice drive from london to blackpool to make.

Could be a failed Diverter Valve or you are loosing boost from somewhere.

i took it out again this time with a friend, the performance did get a little better but not much, i then put the car in park and reved the engine at 2500 revs i could hear the turbo trying to cut in , my friend thinks the turbo has gone something because of the oil problem i had he says that oil was not getting to the turbo either..
does this sound right?? id like to know potential causes before i take it to the garage also if it is a new/ reconditioned turbo how much do they cost i did look on the net but i seem to be hopeless at searching for stuff!! except porn which is'nt too hard!

Did you change the oil pump becuse you had intermittent low oil pressure ligth coming up? If that was the reason for oil pump change than you might have a problem,because you didnt change oil pipe that is feeding the turbo.1.8 T is known to have a that problem. The sludge deposits are acumulated in the engine especally oil sump, and as you might think that oil pipe for the turbo.So it is a possibility that you now have failed turbo. DO NOT rev the car before you change that pipe.Cleaning it wont help I have trayed and failed every time .

yes intermittent low oil pressure light did come on i was lucky enough that i done a mile once it come up then i was home and i didnt do any other damage ie the cam valve actuator, i have taken the car to a specialst now and he was not supprised at what i told him he has it now and will take a look at it.

so what have you done to solve your problem?

well there is no need to change the oil pump just took it off cleadned it ,placed it back on the car ,cleaned engine using engine cleaner to cleane the engine from inside,cleaned oil sump and replaced turbo oil line and problem solved.That problem is a standard for 1.8T . This procedure is sugested by VW,and they say not to change anything other than that turbo line. Just cleane engine internally.And another thing, afther this procedure oil filter is changed, but instead of the one that is normally used you should fitt the oil filter for diesel engine 1.6d that is used in Golf mkII together with Castrol SLX long life II or III.
