Ticking noise, A6 2.7 tdi
Hmm... I am having some trouble with the car again. This time it's the ticking noise, not too uncommon it seems. My ticking is just like the one in the clip. Seems to originate from rear right hand side of engine. It is there all the time as long as the car is running. Ticking follows frequency with engine rpms.

Developing timing chain wear.
Re: Ticking noise, A6 2.7 tdi
Any easy cure? Or engine out, and change chains and tensioners?
Re: Ticking noise, A6 2.7 tdi
It is an awful job, engine or box out and a big pile of parts and special tools. On some, when we do an oil change, I can feel my face go pale at the noise the chains make until the oil pressure gets up.

Long time since I wanted to cry over a car, but now I am close...
Re: Ticking noise, A6 2.7 tdi
It is quite often the case these days that the cost of repairs kills a perfectly good medium age car and I think it is a bit of a scandal that we have gone this way. The chain system on the CR TDI V6 is extremely complex.

Re: Ticking noise, A6 2.7 tdi
thing is, cars have had chains drive things for ever, so why did they make this one so stupidly complicated. its only driving one cam per bank, a balance shaft and an oil pump. a bit of thought, some less stupidity and put the darn thing at the front where you can get to it and you would have a good system. its almost like they dont want anyone to ever replace it...

I have a spare engine. Missing the left cylinder head, but otherwise complete.. What will happening if I continue to use the car?

I got that sick when I heard mine starting to go that I sold it!
