Electric Windows Open on their Own

Hi

I have a 2001 (Y) A6 2.5Tdi and I have noticed lately that on coming out to the car, the windows have opened (all are electric). WOuld anyone have any ideas?

HOw do you mean? I use the fob to lock and unlock the doors. In this case I remember opening the boot with the fob, opening the boot and closed the boot then did nothing else. Is there an automatic opening sequence using the fob??

Hold the open button, all windows drop.

Hold the lock button, all windows shut.

Give it a try, it should work.

Thanks mate. The windows opened some time after the car was locked

Have you checked for water coming through under the carpets on the passenger side. It is a common fault pre 2003 models. I was told there was a recall about it.

As I remember, there are some drain holes on the bottom of the battery plate which together with the seal around the pollen filter combine to let moisture in and on to the convenience unit which is the one which controls all of the windows, locks and courtesy lights etc and is located at the base of the passenger footwell. It's worth also checking the carpets there to ensure they're not damp.
Ensure these areas are dry and the drain holes are clear.
I've had the problem with finding the windows all open in the morning (Audi A6 2.7t Biturbo, what I did was put the keys in my pocket and sat in the chair and if you press the unlock button the drivers door unlocks by itself. If you press it again the rest of the doors unlock and if you continue to hold the button down all four windows will motor down.
This obviously happened as I sat in the chair at home, if the door is unlocked on the fob but not physically opened, then the door will relock after 5 minutes I think it is, but the windows will remain down.
I always hang the keys up at home now and don't put them in my pocket.

Thanks Gazza. So the infamous drain holes evident in VWs also rear their ugly head as well. Great!

Gazza57 could be right too. If there is water coming through like I had said, your car will normally start to stink within a couple of days. I suppose it hasn't then? Gazza57's option is the cheapest one, if it is that.
