service due! Haldex Coupling
Car booked in for service next week...just been checking service schedule to see what is due.
under the heading "Changing Oil in Haldex coupling" every 4 years / 38000 miles , it states "ALL MODELS".
I thought the Haldex coupling was only used in Quattro models (mine is 2 wheel drive) -
can,anyone confirm thx.
Re: service due! Haldex Coupling
Haldex isn't used in quattro either on the 4G as its torsen based, remember the service book is generic across all models.
Re: service due! Haldex Coupling
chris , sorry - bit confused - so my A6 doesn't have a Haldex coupling
Re: service due! Haldex Coupling
Yours doesn't and no A6 does :)
Re: service due! Haldex Coupling
Haldex is only fitted to the S1, and A3 variants. Everything A4 and above gets 'proper' Quattro :)
Re: service due! Haldex Coupling
The TT & Q3 also uses haldex.
Re: service due! Haldex Coupling
But you will need a box oil change.
Re: service due! Haldex Coupling
Transverse engined quattros (pistons aligned left to right - or more accurately the crankshaft) have haldex - and that is A1 / A3 / Q3 series ( and TT I think) . Haldex is basically front wheel drive and shifts power to the rear based on electronic sensors as a reaction to poor traction. By all accounts they tend to drive and feel like front wheel drive cars for the most part but have extra traction when conditions get treacherous. Hadex seems to need more regular maintenance than torsen
Longitudinal aligned engines and gearboxes (pistons aligned front to back) - A4 A6 A8 Q5? Q7 - use the torsen (TORque SENsing) quattro configuration. Personally I think this is "real" quattro - largely mechanical - there are some electronic aids now - with direct transfer. Permanently driven rear wheels (various default splits but 40% front to 60% rear is default with up to 70% front or 85% rear possible). As a result they drive more like a rear wheel drive vehicle - or to be accurate a true 4X4 - because substantial thrust is being delivered from the rear of the car even in dry conditions.
Someone correct me if I'm off base here ...

Hi Whippy , Do you mean gear box oil change ?
My gear box oil was changed at 38293 miles, car has now done 48000 miles - so I'm assuming the gear box oil won't need changing until 76000 miles ?
car is going for an interim service - so basically an oil and filter change. (Looking at the schedule nothing else is due)
