Urgent HELP!! 150 gttdi Rear crankshaft oil seal leak
Hi Everybody,
Hope everybody had a great xmas. My problem is as above, engine oil leak from the bellhousing. This is despite replacing the sump and resealing it and ALSO rear crankshaft seal/housing assembly myself:aargh4::aargh4:
I have removed the gearbox again:zx11::zx11: and the only thing that I can come up with is that I did not seal the threads of the flywheel/DMF bolts to the crank. I did not realise that the bolt holes go straight through and are not blind holes. The crank boss were the lip seal runs on seems to be perfect condition. The alignment of the seal/housing is carried out by two guide pins/dowels in the cylinder block. Can anybody shed any light or have had a similar experience:1zhelp::1zhelp: Thanks , Med.

So you replaced the crankcase seal behind the dmf, yes?
Have you checked the gearbox seals, to be fair engine oil and gearbox oil smells and feels different so you should be able to tell quick.
Have you checked the engine oil level?
If it is engine oil then it can only really be the crank seal behind dmf surely [emoji1] [emoji594]

Re: Urgent HELP!! 150 gttdi Rear crankshaft oil seal leak
the holes in the crank are indeed straight through. the new stretch bolts that you should have used have a sealing compound on the threads already. this could be the cause of the leak if no compound was applied. mind you, knowing how freaking tight these bolts are, i wouldn't fancy reusing the old ones anyway.
Re: Urgent HELP!! 150 gttdi Rear crankshaft oil seal leak
Hi Zollaf,
No sealing compound was to the bolts, as I didn't notice that the crankshaft holes were open !! Does anybody know the torque settings for the DMF to crankshaft ? I have another rear crankshaft seal/housing, to refit tomorrow. Iwill seal the crank bolts. Just to add it is definatly coming from the engine and not the transmission. Regards, Med.

Re: Urgent HELP!! 150 gttdi Rear crankshaft oil seal leak
Zollaf,
Thanks very much for the DMF to crank torque settings. I have fitted another new rear crank seal, resealed the sump and fitted the DMF blots with sealant coated on the threads !! I hope to get it running tomorrow (weather permitting), so I will let you know if the leak is cured:confused: Happy new year to everybody,:beerchug: Med.
Re: Urgent HELP!! 150 gttdi Rear crankshaft oil seal leak
Just to update,
Finished putting the car back together and tested it. No leaks from the bellhousing, so oil must have been leaking from the threads of the bolts holding the DMF to crank. You live and learn!!!! Many thanks for all of your help .
