Re: THE MONEY PIT is GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this information, my auto gearbox no longer wants to change from 2nd to 3rd, it hangs on for ages before changing, sometimes it just doesn't bother.
We came to the same conclusion, the things mugging us.

I know how it feels, but then thats second hand car and its like a lottery with what you get.
If you can afford to buy a new 30k car thats fine, problem solved.. or £300 a month ish plus deposits?
Unless of course you could down size to say small engined car with very little to go wrong with you could save some money.
Re: THE MONEY PIT is GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've just paid out £1100 for cam belts, water pump etc. but its only every 6 years so it evens itself out. I've had it for nearly 7 years but get it regularly serviced by a good independent and I never use the G/box in anything other than PR or D.
I'm hoping my 120K model will last me another 10 years.
Re: THE MONEY PIT is GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As with everything in life you get what you pay for ! To be honest they are good cars is just lack of maintenance and expensive labour rates that kill them cars, i had a few allroads and i found them very, very good with little that went wrong ! They can also take loads of abuse and everything that i replace on them is an upgrade... As mentioned above, you either take your pick and pay up to 500 quid a month on a shiny new car or take a gamble and buy a 2nd hand car and save some money for things that go wrong !
£1100 is a lot of money especially when you can get it done with genuine parts for half that amount ! Change the gearbox oil and filter/strayner and it will last a while- use genuine parts though !
