A6 Allroad, rear brake clicking
Hello,
11/2006 A6 Allroad with electric parking brake.
I have had this problem for a long time, passed the MOT like it, brakes work fine, but after releasing the handbrake from stop or the footbrake from a low speed or stop, when I pull away there is a loud metallic click coming from the left hand rear brake, sounds like about once per wheel revolution for about 2 or 3 times. Could find nothing loose anywhere near the brakes I thought it may be something to do with the pad locsting springs. So today I have replaced both rear discs with new pads and springs, no outward issues with calipers, have just road tested it and it is just the same, very annoying.
Hope someone may have had and solved a similar problem in the past.
Regards,
Michael

What if you come to a stop in N without the brakes and then set off?
Could it be CV joint?

Hello, If you roll to a stop without using the brakes at all, no clicking!

Just took the car out again and retried slowing dowm without the brakes and this time it did click when I pulled away. Got the car in the garage, lifted the rear wheels up and turned them back and forwards but did not click, could find no play or anything loose.

Are the caliper pins lubricated and in good order? Its the pin that slides into caliper carrier and holds the caliper via the 2 8mm bolts

Yes the caliper pins were cleaned and greased before refitting the new discs snd pads and the rubber caliper pin boots were in good order and seated correctly.

Silly q. How loud is the noise? Can it be heard with Windows up?

Oh and does the noise pick up speed as you accelerate?

You don't hear it much with the windows shut but with a window open it is quite loud and sharp, like metal striking metal. It is only at low speed, say less than 5 mph and seems to happen each wheel revolution maybe only 2 or 3 times then stops as the speed increases
Re: A6 Allroad, rear brake clicking
Have you changed that wheel or tyre recently, could be sommat fell in betwixt wheel and alloy prior to inflation?
