Cabby hood cleaning and waterproofing carried out today, what do I use for weekly clean.
Hi, spent most of the afternoon cleaning and waterproofing my cabby hood.
i used the Autoglym hood cleaner and proofed kit and used it all!!
first off was to vacuum the hood all over, got some funny looks from the neighbours! Then wet it with a hose and sprinkler, next is to spray it with the cleaner on the now wet roof.I used the White sponge from the kit and a tooth brush around the edges, guttering and stitches (never knew the stitching was blue)
loads of of green came out and I gave it a really good go over several times, rinsed with hose and all was looking really good. Went inside for a nice cold Stella and back out, not so good, once dry still visible signs of green algae on edges and around the gutters and centre of the roof.
repeat steps 1 again, this time using a soft bristled brush, loads more green came out, gave it a really good go over, satisfied I had done a good job, I proceeded to waterproof it on the damp roof as per instructions.
end result is very good, the hood is dark blue and actually looks it, I would say most, if not all of the algae has gone. Happy days!
one question though, when I next wash the car, which will be next week sometime, what do I do with the roof? Leave it, use the Autoglym shampoo or just hose it off???
thanks for reading, I will probably use the hood cleaner and waterproofed again before the winter sets in, say in October or November.

I did the Wifes ex-cabby with the same stuff years ago. I followed the advice given over on the cleanyourcar forum and got similar results to the ones you described. For the next washes I simply sprinkled water onto the roof. No need for high pressure, then dried off the beading with a water blade and the drying cloth.
I used to re-clean the roof every March/April then again in September/October.
Hope this helps.
