Letter on ABS pump

Hi can someone please enlighten me.

My garage asked me to pick up an ABS pump with number 3C0614109A for new model 2005 Passat. The breakers only had one pump Number 3C0614109C. Is C compatible with A or what do the letters mean. My Passat has cruise control so does that limit the chances of picking up a second- hand unit. My car is in the garage 3 weeks and they claim to have been trying to find a unit. My pump was sent to UK for repair but was not repairable. Thanks for any help or advice

I'm pretty sure 109C will be a direct replacement for your original 109A. To be sure all you need to do is call the parts dept at you local dealer and ask if your 109A superseded onto 109C.

ABS pump number 3C0614095M Tried to fit 3C0614109C . All fault lights still light. Should the newer pump with the C have worked ?

Well, that is the ABS Control Module number. It has to be coded with VCDS for the same operations as was your previous. Did you take a note of your previous's coding before it was removed? If it's any help, my '06MY estate has a "Q" revision, auto Tiptronic box with cruise, but with the 2.0L tFSI engine. So your required coding could be different. Note that mine is an ESP controller. Without TPMS mine looked like:

Forgot to mention in my yesterday's reply that your replacement will not work:

If you're original was an 095, then your replacement must be an 095. As has been posted, you don't have to worry about the revision letter being later. Check with VW dealer spares with your VIN for correct part number.

Thanks for the replies. Having been without my Passat since Feb 23rd I am now changing mechanics. My old ABS pump was sent to UK so no codes and I think they are giving me the incorrect part number. The guy who is working on the car now said Part number 3C0614109C is not compatible so it is now for sale if anyone needs an ABS pump for a 2008 2.0 litre Diesel. I am looking for 3C0614109 A

You're confusing me now :1zhelp: If the last three part numbers are the same then yes, they're compatible with each other. If the last three part numbers are not the same then no, they're not compatible with each other.

If you're confused as to what part (number) was originally taken out then check with dealer spares by giving them your VIN. Mine here in SE London are helpful even if I'm not going to buy from them -- to the point of even printing out the page from ETKA (VW's online catalogue)

Replacing your ABS pump complete with controller means also re-coding the new to what your faulty part was coded to. There are various switches to turn on and off in VCDS that will enable or disable certain functions. These can be selected in VCDS long coding (a part of the program) Or you can get a start by finding another car same as yours coding that's been posted on the forums, and using that as a starter code. Then checking that each two digits (called a Byte in VCDS) has switched on or off what you want it to switch on or off

A VAG indie garage will be able to do all of this for you. It sounds as if your mechanic didn't take (or know how to take) a note of the settings of the original part before removing it. Which begs the question, why did he remove the ABS pump at all?

Thanks. My new mechanic has been in touch with VW to clarify. I am looking for 3C0614109 A for a new model 05 Passat 1.9 diesel. When they enter the VIN the car shows as 06 which it seems is normal for an end of year change of model.
The guy who put in the ABS unit from the 08 2.0 litre was just grasping at straws. My car had been with him at least 3 weeks. I have totally lost confidence in the first garage. I even found parts from my car left in the car. I asked one of the mechanics about them and he said " I suppose they would work better on the engine "

Freestorm ltd in Cork supply refurbished ABS pumps. Have any of you heard of them or used them ? They give a warranty so might be a better option than a second hand pump ?
