After months of troubleshooting various electrical gremlins it seems to centre around the CAN-Gateway module.
If I replace this, is it just a case of making a note of the codes and moving over to new module. Or will I hit component protection ?
I'm loathed to take it into Audi again!

The replacement gateway module will trigger component protection. You will need to record the coding and also the installation list (things that use the CAN bus (and MOST if you have MMI) to communicate in your car). You don't have to go to Audi there are a few independents that can do it.
