2005 C5 Allroad. Self level headlights (halogen) warning light

Hello guys again...

You chaps have saved me a fortune over the last few years, and I'm hopeful you can do so again...

As per the thread title, I have an 05 allroad 2.5 Tdi and have obviously had the usual problems that most have had, but this is new to me, and despite searches, I haven't seen a solution to this baby!

The headlight leveling warning and accompanying "BEEP" on selecting gear at start up that drives me mad. I've done a quick scan under the hood, but see nothing wrong.

Brief history. This came on once before some months back while driving in absolutely biblical torrential rain, but went off as soon as it stopped raining… Now this time, it came on after a night of torrential rain, but has remained on. Both headlight units have some moisture retention issues.

The headlamp units, do not appear to adjust (up/down) on start up as before, and am supposing that this is the issue. Can somebody please steer me in the right direction about where to start looking?

I am a mechanic by trade, though several years away from the trade professionally, so would be willing to be adventurous!

Doesn't rain in Dublin does it? :) Look for a site member called Michael Balbrig I think he might have VCDS. Car needs a scan if he doesn't have it I can send you a number of a guy that can scan your car he's in North Co Dublin

Anyhow, I can get use of VCDS from a buddy of mine, but I was wondering if there was a common fault that I could look for before I went down that road.

Thanks for the advice, will get working on the '*** kissing' to get use of the VCDS!

Apart from checking for water ingress anything electrical is guesswork and can get expensive randomly changing parts. You need 2 scans first one read and save the codes then clear them as some could be there for years. This may well show what the problem is. 2 days later get another scan

The headlight leveling system Using the rear left and front Left height sensors and There are also a tow small engines in the headlight Right and left . Since the problem was created in the rain, you probably have a faulty Corrosion electrical contact in one of the height sensor or in the Connector in the front headlights Right or left. Try to cleaning the contacts.
important!!! Before you check your system enter the car to a " jack mode " To prevent damage in the system

Control circuit for left headlight range adjusting motor (v48) 30-00- open or shirt to plus.

The headlight is now dried out, but the problem persists... Any hints? Is it headlamp removal job? Bumper off?

Any hints gratefully received!

You can disassemble the headlight back covers and check the headlight range adjusting motor (v48)
