Polo 6n starter motor question

Hi Guys

Wife's polo (6n 2000 1.4 petrol) not starting (starter motor gear not engaging the flywheel), so I've picked up another starter from a breakers and a new bush to replace. The original motor has the part number 085 911 023J. The breaker motor is stamped the same but with a VW exchange sticker which has the PN 085 911 023 JX (I think this is because this was a VW Exchange unit).

Anyway, although they have the same part numbers and look identical, the solenoid on the 'new' starter has an extra uninsulated spade connector on it - any ideas what this is for and will the 'new' starter still work if I fit it (with this connector unconnected). I think the starter I got was off a 2001 polo.

Thought I'd update...fitted the new starter and all working again.

Anyone know what the extra connector does for reference?

The terminal will probably be for engines that have a ballast resistor in the ignition coil supply wiring.
The ballast resistor reduces the voltage that the coil sees to 8 or 9 volts. When the starter is cranking the engine, the load of the starter causes the battery voltage to drop to around 9V.
The terminal goes live when the starter is engaged and is used to bypass the ballast resistor while the engine is cranking so full voltage to be supplied to the ignition coil.
