Trolley jack and an A4 B8 Quattro

Having changed my wheels and tyres last week (summer to winter) using the jack supllied with the car I had two observations:

1) It's bloody awkward getting the jack out of it's plastic bracket, especially in the freezing cold with bare hands. Gloves and some brute force and ignorance finally made it, but that was 5 minutes I could have done without wasting.

2) Using a trolley jack would have been a fair bit quicker, but mine has the usual round "petal" top plate, and the jacking points of the A4 seem profiled around the sill seam.

I could probably get someone at work to make up a replacement support to fit to my jack I guess, but I'm sure the AA/RAC just use a standard jack, so there must be suitable points on which to use one. Any suggestions?

I just use my standard trolley jack with 'petal top' on the normal jacking points, never had a problem ....

I use a trolley jack with the saddle removed and a wooden/rubber block works fine.

Oh fancy

For some jacks (e.g Sealey) you can get hard rubber attachments for the top to prevent this problem. It is a PITA though...I find the biggest problem is jacking the car up with a normal jack and trying to avoid touching the plastic undercovering or some of the pipes/cables that tend to run along that part of the car.

I saw rubber discs with a groove in them that fits the saddle of a Sealy jack but they were in US and postage was horrible. I have a rubber block from a scissor lift and a piece of inch ply
