audi 80 tdi air in system
hi guys recentley brought a audi 80 tdi last month of ebay milage is 225k been a great car doing 400 miles a week in it to work. noticed a few issues with cooling.
top rad hose is hot and hard. bottom hose is hard and lukewarn cars sits at 90-95 degrees blows hot air. today though it went up to 100 degress cold air through vents had to pull over wait and relive pressure in header tank after this was great again
car has had water pump/new header tank and cap/water pipes /thermostat
could the issue be a blocked radiator other than this drives ok took cap of header tank earlier drove a mile to let air escape then replaced cap both pipes to radiator same now hot
any help or advice would be welcome or recommend somebody to look at it in birmingham cheers
Re: audi 80 tdi air in system
mine did this once, that turned out to be a blocked rad. i even cut the old one open to prove it. does the rad get hot ?
Re: audi 80 tdi air in system
hi zollaf was hoping you would answer no rads cold
somebody did say take rad out fill with truck wash leave overnight then rinse
Re: audi 80 tdi air in system
you could try that, i have never had any success. i took mine out, washed it, put a hose in the top and plenty of water came out the bottom, thought it was fine.i already had a spare so fitted that and problem solved. you could try removing it and filling it with hot water and seeing if the core does warm up.if it stays cold it must be blocked.
Re: audi 80 tdi air in system
hi zollaf will change rad next week could it be someting else?
in last 2 days cars done 122 miles drives great for a 20 year plus car. am converted to audis now
Re: audi 80 tdi air in system
they are good. the old 80 is a bit basic but a proper car, mine has clocked 330,000 miles now.
Re: audi 80 tdi air in system
Hi,
You say your changing the rad next week, is this a new one or second hand?
You could remove original rad, block one pipe and fill with water, empty and measure quantity, then do the same with the other rad and see if there is any difference in the quantity of water.
If there is a difference this could point to a blocked rad, because if its blocked it will hold less water.
