I always fit a new hub.
Goodness I'm not the only one who fits new hub when renewing the bearing then? My MOT tester laughs at me and says I waste my time and cash. BUT! All the hubs I have ever renewed all show signs of wear, so I renew 'em along with the CV joints. And my cars don't seem to fail MOT's. I suppose I must be doing something right. Perhaps that's why the MOT man is peeved
It was nothing spectacular to be honest, used used a 3 legged puller and various sockets for something to pull against, came off with a few taps of a hammer as I was drawing up the puller.
A lot of time is spent in the preparation, cleaning up the various nuts, bolts, hex heads etc... so as not to cause more work by stripping heads, a bit of heat goes a long way to help with the removal as well.
Like has been said above, if I was doing the job again I would get a new hub, would have saved time and a lot of messing about. The only reason I rushed it was I need the car for tomorrow.
