Car won't go over 1500 rpm in 1st gear!
Over the last few days there are occasions when the car won't go over 1500rpm when setting off in 1st gear.
I've noticed it tends to happen on relatively cold start when i first get moving but it has happened part way through a journey aswell. I try to put my foot down but the needle dosn't move nor is there any power to the wheels (don't think I can hear the engine revs increasing either). I slip it into 2nd and all is ok. Even if I use 1st gear immediately after, it works fine.
Havn't had a chance to plug VAG COM in yet.
Must also point out that the weekend before last (2nd Sept) I was part way through fitting cruise control myself (unfinished project:o). There is a certain connection that I have left unplugged (was previously plugged in). It is a black plug and in the Control Box under the wiper motor. I believ this shouldn't affect it as it's only used for CruiseControl (I believe). If this was the problem then it wouldn't be intermittent would it. Would either work or not at all.
Any pointers folks?
Thanks in advance

:( unos problemos
The reason I didn't reconnect it at the time is because the I pushed the plug through a plastic grid that holds it. So now it's sitting somwhere behind the dash, near the instrument cluster (behind that). It's very inaccessible but I'm going to give it another try this weekend and complete the 'project'.

Imagine my surprise when I pulled up at the front of my house tonight after arriving home with my new 52 plate GT TDi to find an extra "gadget" on the headlamp stalk.... cruise control! yep, never noticed it at the garage, and it wasn't advertised as having it :D so guess I wont have to bother with THAT mod ;)
Loofer - VAG-COM is the way forward! :)

'How To' what?? Stop your car from going over 1250rpm in 1st Gear?:approve:
In theory fitting cruise control is straight forward.
It did it again today, only after starting the car up, it wouldn't go over 1250 rpm. Pressed acc but no power or noise/from the engine.
VAG COM it is tonight.

pop down to Bristol loofer , we will get it on Vagcom m8 ;)

Re: Car won't go over 1500 rpm in 1st gear!
Plugged in Vag COM. No codes other than the ones I'm already aware off (ABS etc).
I tend to use AutoScan with the engine off ( but ignition ON). Is there something else I should be trying to monitor sensors/values etc whilst engine is running?
If so, please post a mini idiot's guie. I'm very new to VAG COM so be gentle.
P.S thanks Paul... Bristol seems to be a very helpful part of the world. I've already had offers to sort my Cruise Control out from lads from Bristol/Swinton over on MK-IVS.net
Bristol is a bit too near Manchester... would prefer to drive a bit further... anybody from Land's End or John o'Groats on this forum?;)
