audi a8 2007 electric adjustment on steering column not working!!!
Hi. I've owned this car for a short while now. The steering was working fine. But now it no longer works even when i use the memory settings it does not change position.
I have checked fuse 6, 9 and 40 on drivers side and they all seem fine.
So i don't know what it can be.
I've read on another thread that
*** I took to Audi dealer in the end, and they eventually diagnosed it as a connection fault in the connector to battery manager. All working fine now. ***
Where is the battery manager?? And how would i go about doing this. I'm quite handy with electrics so hopefully shouldn't be too difficult.
Any help will be appreciated
Thank you
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
Initially your post confused me as I thought "electric steering stopped working!!!, WTHEF is he on about, the 4E does not have EPAS?" and then I looked up the fuse numbers and I realised you must mean the column height/reach adjuster. The column motors are controlled by the by a resistance value signal from the E167 adjustment switch into the J527 Steering column electronics control unit which converts the values to CAN signals which go to the J136 Seat and steering column adjustment control unit under the driver’s seat. Here the column position is determined along with memory commands and monitored by the G357 Steering column vertical adjustment sender and G358 Steering column axial adjustment sender. It then sends the desired column position to the J519 Onboard supply control unit as a CAN signal with fuses SC38 and SC40 on the right hand fuse board being the power supplies, especially SC40 which is the V123 steering column vertical adjustment motor and V124 Steering column axial adjustment motor, 30A fuse. Check that these two fuses have power at them and this power feed also goes to fuse 6 so check that it has power. It is fuse SB9 on the left side that is for the steering column electrics, the wiring diagram says the main fuses are SB38 and SB40 but the fuse board list says for right hand drive it is SC38 and SC40 and that is on the right, not left which is fuse board SB  :boggled:
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
i've had the car scanned and there is no electrical fault with the steering wheel.
I've had al lthe fuses checked.
And also the power is coming to the steering adjustment control switch. When it moves it is being registered so the power is there at that point.
I've tried tapping the motors incase they have been jammed (which the electrician said) but no luck.
I've seen a document on
AudiWorld Forums - View Single Post - Audi 2007 (D3?) Steering Column switch
Which requires some settings to the belt. It seems like a bit of a fix though.
|Is there anybody that has attempted it or can anybody help me with a easier solution.
I really would like this to be working.
Thanks :)
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
If it is not working and has power I struggle to trust the code read that says there are no faults, what were the codes read with? It sounds like some work has been done in Measuring Blocks, were output tests carried out?
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
sorry there was a code but it was not related to any of the modules or electrical items. I'm not aware if any output tests were carried out.
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
I am pretty sure there are motor output tests that can be carried out to help with diagnosis. With a problem like this, I personally would be using VAS with its guided fault finding function to help me ascertain what is at fault.
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
Thank you so much for your help crasher. I'm not familiar with VAs. Is there anybody in the west Yorkshire area who could assist me?
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
I think you will end up fitting an exchange steering column unit, 4E0 419 512 GX.
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
I stripped the steering wheel down. And there is a belt around two cogs. The belt seems fine and not too tight. But I cannot hearany sound when I press the adjustment button. Does that indicate anything? I've banged around the motor area in case it starts working but nothing.
Any ideas?
Also where can I get a refurbished one?
Re: audi a8 2007 electric steering stopped working!!!
The refurbished unit is from Audi, you cannot buy any spares for the system. Personally I would not like to drive one that had been rebuilt by anyone but Audi.
