2007 Audi A6 2.7 TDI

Hi Guys,

Just signed up here looking for some buying advice. I have been on the look out for a new car for a few weeks now and originally planned on a 530D M sport but struggling to get one within budget. Had a quick look on at the A6's a few days a go and quite like the look of a few, especially this one although the mileage is a little high; Audi A6 2.7 TDI S Line 4dr

Can anyone tell me common faults etc on these. I have seen a few threads but nothing has really helped, also noticed there it two tax bands between this and pre 06 models?

First thing I will be doing after a service would be getting it mapped and DPF removed, has anyone on here done this and what sort of figures have you been achieving?

Last question is regarding the cambelt, when is it due on these?
Hopefully had this and the clutch done!

Have a look at the first few pages in this section, there have been a few threads like yours in the past couple of days.

The 2.7 doesn't have a timing belt, it's chain driven which doesn't have an interval.

Co2 will dictate the tax band so check this out and on the dvla site. Re DPF check the option sticker in the spare wheel well and if you see 7GN then it doesn't have one.

Not many red ones on the road and a decent price, weird it has folding rear seats as thought that was just quattro's that had that as standard. seems to be decently spec'd and only missing Bluetooth, which can be added with a parrot kit for around £200 if needed. Yep Chris is right there' have been a few threads about 2.0's in the past week or so....IIRC no pre 08 will have a DPF. Can I ask why your not considering a 3.0, the road tax on my 07 quattro is £280 per annum.

Spoke to the seller and they said it has not had a clutch but is still fine. Any idea on a general cost of this? Presuming its going to need doing soon.

I thought the ad said it did have Bluetooth somewhere?

Hopefully can negotiate a little as I would like the clutch doing and a full service.

Would like a 3.0 but the mpg seems to drop quite a bit, was thinking of remapping this. Hopefully get more power out of it somehow.

Will let you know how I get on.

Ad says it has Bluetooth, also has MMI High with DVD Sat Nav so as already said it is a well specced car at a good price. I guess the obvious questions would be how long has it been SORN as a car sitting on the drive not moving for a period of time will start to deteriorate and also when was it last serviced. Might also be worth seeing if they would agree to a fresh MOT as part of the deal, that way you will at least have some peace of mmd regarding the state of the critical components.

Ooops! My bad about Bluetooth! :Blush2: Depends on the mileage/type of driving you plan on doing, on long uninterrupted M'way runs am getting over 50MPG in my 3.0...but think that's down to my driving style mainly...also quattro's have an 80l fuel tank to your cars 70l. Keep us posted :D

Nice looking car... Have only ever seen a handful of red ones! Last one I seen in Edinburgh had a very short plate... 3digits! Looked stunning imho...
Make sure the AC work's fine also... Probably not something most will check during the winter! Fixes can get pricey...

Be careful about DPF removal (if it has one!) as I believe this may now lead to an MOT failure as a car is now required to have any emissions equipment fitted at the time of the test that it left the factory with

John, when did that change happen? As I had my LPG converted Jag MOT'd in July and it has no catalytic convertors whatsoever as removed them due to clean burn...passed with no problem.

Since march this year a car should fail if it had a catalytic convertor as standard that has been removed (see here: MOT Test Checks List continued - MOT Testing Industry Portal) I think DPFs are a little bit of a grey area at the moment as to whether this legislation covers them or not. Think you were lucky, or perhaps it is not obvious to the tester that they have been removed on your car as the test is a visual inspection and provided it still meets the permitted emissions criteria for the car then it would pass.
