2009 A4 Avant - Vibrations in car between 65-85mph
Audi A4 B8 2009 Avant 170 Tdi S-Line, 60k on clock....... My car vibrates between 65-85 mph, getting worse on accelerating. I had both front wheels balanced, as I believed that to be the cause. The car runs on 19's, so i'm assuming this would have shown a buckle on the balancing. Garage said they were slightly unbalanced, but not too bad. Sadly the vibration is still there after balancing (discs and pads are new). I have searched the internet and my options seem to be to get a full wheel alignment (could this cause the vibrations?) or maybe rubber bushes replaced with polyurethane ones (would this help? don't want to pay £50 if nothing changes). I have read that the 2010 had different control arms, due to this vibration, but cannot find any genuine info on this, just from a thread on Audi America site. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: 2009 A4 Avant - Vibrations in car between 65-85mph
I had this when I first got mine - rebalancing made no difference. Sometime later all was well, and the only two things that had changed were a rear tyre that had gotten a slow puncture, and my clutch and DMF were replaced.
I have a sneaky feeling that it was the DMF that was giving the vibration in mine, but I hope for your sake that its not the same for you.

Bugger!! I certainly hope that's not the case here. I've also read since that unbalanced rear tyres often produce an issue. I'm not keen on throwing good money after bad, but hope the DMF isn't an issue. What other issues did you get, which may have also been DMF issues??

Vibrations through the steering wheel could mean control arms, front tire balance or wheel issues. Vibration through seat means rear tires or wheels need attention.
Re: 2009 A4 Avant - Vibrations in car between 65-85mph
I had a vibration at higher speeds that made the car feel as though it was being driven over a rough surface, but it was a fairly rhythmic vibration if that makes sense? The other symptoms pointed clearly at the clutch and DMF - one hell of a shudder when pulling away, worse when warmed up, and murder if it had spent an hour or so in town traffic; and a very obstructive gearchange when cold, with second gear being an absolute mission.
Its a hell of a costly fix though, so I sincerely hope that this isn't your problem.
Re: 2009 A4 Avant - Vibrations in car between 65-85mph
Hi fat controller, thankfully those symptoms aren't present.
im going to have to rule out if it's steering wheel or just general seats vibrating, but passenger one vibrates a lot and baby mirror in back, so hopefully just an unbalanced set of rear wheels and not buckles etc. will get tracking checked at same time, best to rule out cheaper options first.
Thanks for your help guys

The first thing I would be doing is swapping the rear wheels with the fronts - see if the problem moves. If it does, then you know its a wheel or tyre issue.
I had a similar problem with my Jag a few years back, and it turned out to be a knackered sidewall on one of the rear tyres - thank god I found out when it failed at low speed, as the vibration was only present on that one above 70; a failure at that speed would have been fun!
