Dynolicious run in allroad BiTdi
Got my brother visiting from US, he has an S4 and thinks my allroad BiTdi feel 'different but as quick'... "faster in different areas". This is straight line performance obviously - the allroad is still a bit of a barge compared to the S4 so cornering is less precise.
Anyway we decided to do a test using the dynolicious app on hi iPhone. Using a convenient layby on a short stretch of dual carriageway near where I live we waited for no traffic and did some blasts to get a 0 - 60 figure. First couple of attempts I fluffed the launch and got high 5 second numbers, not bad bit not the claimed mid-5 seconds form Audi and also we both felt the pick-up off the line could be a lot sharper... So I decided to try the "turn the ESP off and hold revs at 2800 with the brake on" approach. Not something I would want or choose to do often (if ever) but for the sake of this exercise I did it.
Launch of the line was hugely improved and the dynolicious graphs showed the difference.
We used a drive train loss figure of 15%.. so the estimate of 317hp may be a little high, the 0 to 60 figure is likely to be accurate though and I was astonished :)

Fantastic, I'm looking forward to stretching my BiTdi when I've finished running her in. Not sure I'll do a launch start, but I can already feel she's begging for some spirited driving. I'm assuming you had yours in 'dynamic' but did you use paddles?

Yes dynamic but used the auto changes rather than paddles.
Mine has done just over 5000 miles now so nicely loosened up.

Oh and the BHP figure... when we though about it 15% drivetrain loss is probably 'low'... and a higher drivetrain loss would result in a the bhp estimate being HIGHER than 317 bhp rather than lower :)

sorry, but an allroad doesn't need to be as fast as that.

I reckon you should use the paddles and change at about 4600 with the BiTurbo, it just runs out of puff at the very end, but if you change too early you hit the turbo cross over point, so you want to be on the big turbo throughout if you see what I mean.

Yeah there are a few around including some for 'droid. My brother has used this one for a couple of years and done a bit of research and it appears to have been benchmarked against professional grade instruments that cost ££ and has come out as being pretty accurate - REALLY close to the results from the ££ kit.

For those folks that don't want to look at the graph.. the allroad BiTdi posted a (remarkable) 0 - 60 of 4.89 seconds (with a passenger) :)

Allroad BiTurbo.
The power delivery is, in general, laggy. Full bore starts, there is a discernible delay before max /power acceleration kicks in. Rolling acceleration, hold it in a gear with say 2k to 2.5k revs and accelerate hard, (not enough to cause kick down) and there is definitely a two step response (1) car starts to accelerate but not that hard and then, (2) a small but noticeable time later, hard acceleration occurs. Worse a lower revs, less noticeable as revs increase. This lag is coming from the engine, not the gearbox.
Not really a major issue, but I do notice it, particularly because in my previous car (BMW F11 535D) the engine was so much more responsive. Having said that the ride was abysmal and 300+ bhp through two wheels in damp conditions would see the traction control / esp working quite hard. Overall as an all-purpose car the A6 is much better.
