Poor Servicing - Engine oil overfilled.

I'm beginning to discover that the Inspection service the garage (non-Audi) did before I bought the car was perhaps little more than a oil change or top-up and a cursory kick of the tyres.:mad:
Even though the 'Inspection Service' was ticked in the book, several things were missed or ignored according to the service interval requirements:

- Tyre pressures not checked, all tyres way below recommended minimums.
- Pollen filters not changed
- Fuel Filter not changed
- Brake fluid not changed
- Oil level way too high (difficult to tell if it was replaced).

Is there an easier way of draining off some oil other than removing the sump plug? If the level is too high, will it damage the engine? (Its higher than the Max level on the dipstick)

From reading online during the years, having an overfilled engine with oil can lead to the turbo sucking the oil and chewing the engine and causing a runaway engine and chewing it to bits in turn. This is rare but it can happen.

You can suck the excess oil out with a vacuum fluid extractor. I suggest you get the AA/RAC to check over the car and give you a report with a view to getting the seller to have it serviced properly. The report won't cost much probably little more than the cost of getting the oil removed. As Chris said you can do a lot of damage with too much oil probably best not to drive it

I'd be very tempted to do a oil change plus oil filter now. Quantum oil is Castrol EDGE, cheaply available on ebay. I once had to drain oil by loosening sump drain plug after a little overfill by a garage, luckily did not leak after tightening back up ...

Pollen filter chamber I hoovered mine out before renewing (Link:- VW AUDI Forum - VWAF). It was clean this time but you should have seen it the first time I did it. My car had FASH but TBH was very poorly done even by dealers IMO.

I once overfilled a Rover 400 company car I had. I went like s***t off and shovel. only problem was that with the key out engine was still going at full rpm. Could hear the bottom end starting to give up. Quite disturbing really !

The problem I would have is that it would cost a dealer max £100.00 to do a service and change the brake fluid. If he stamped the book without doing the work that's misleading IMO. He overlooked the tyre pressure too not a big deal but if he couldn't be bothered to do that what else did he overlook?

I agree Gup and like you I do all my own work. If he can't do it himself it will cost him at least £200.00 that's a years road tax or a dirty weekend!

I heard that overfilling the engine oil can cause the big ends to froth up the oil, causing fine air bubbles be drawn along all the oil galleries with the oil, causing increased friction and premature engine faliure. Ditto the turbo. Bristol Street Motors, main B'ham Ford dealer were most apologetic when I took my last motor back and showed them how overfull the sump was. Didn't stop them doing the same every year after that, though.

Bring it back to them mate ...
