USB/MP3 Issues - 2G MMI High / 2005 A6
Hey all,
So as regular readers may know I recently took possession of a 2005 3.0 TDI Quattro A6 with a pretty high spec and the novelty value hasn't yet work off! :)
BUT.. there's a bug/issue that's slowly driving me mad that hopefully you can help with.
The car has the 6 CD changer, MMI High 2G and iPod/USB connections in the glovebox. Connected to this is a USB stick with all my MP3s -these are stored in 4 folders on the stick
When the car is first powered up, several things may happen...
1. The track will reset to the first on the list
2. Loading/initialising will be displayed / track 1 may or may not play while this sits there (sometimes indefinitely, sometimes not - a switch to Radio and back may load the list)
3. It'll show a list of 99 blank tracks and be "playing" #99 which shows as Aux but with no audio or anything else
4. It may remember where it was last time the car was on and just play from that point/track (this is what I want it to do)
SW has been updated to the latest 5550 version which cured a few other things (like the ability to clear the Radio memory)
Also, the MP3 stick shows up in the MMI as CDs (not sure if this maybe is part of the issue?) and previously did work fine in my Passat with its Parrot MKI9200 setup so it's ok too.
Any thoughts much appreciated! :)

Hi mate :),
If you've scanned car and done MOST loop test via VCDS and no errors perhaps the AMI firmware update flash will help?
US site with English PDF, Link:- Software-Update > Audi music interface > Audi Worldwide
DE site with German PDF Link:- Audi music interface > Audi Deutschland
Other than PDF's with each the update bin file is same form some minor checks I did ...

Cheers gupsterg (as always!) :)
Will; try this when I get home tonight and report back with the results....

Re: USB/MP3 Issues - 2G MMI High / 2005 A6
Think I may have an idea why things aren't working as they should :( .. seems it's some aftermarket solution put in by the previous owner. I googled some pics of the AMI install and it's not what's in my glovebox:
Attachment 22149Attachment 22148
So that would explain why it's not working properly then, but it's interesting that it works at all as I didn't think an aftermarket setup like this was possible without a similar control unit.
I'll have to pull out the changer (need to get some removal keys) and go from there I suppose.

Looks like a Dension Gateway 500 to me.
In behind the glovebox you will find a small control box, I assume this is what needs updating.

Cheers Chris.. I was just about to post a link I found saying it must be some variant on the 500 then - http://www.dension.com/sites/default...i-17-12-12.pdf - but ya beat me to it :)
It doesn't seem to have BT though (more's the pity..)
Now off to look for updates...
Re: USB/MP3 Issues - 2G MMI High / 2005 A6
So looks like there's firmware updates at least that can be uploaded to it so that's a plus - Gateway 500 | iPod car, iPhone car, USB car, Bluetooth car kit, Video car adapter - will give that a go later.
Also says that there's a BTA1500 adapter (just over £100 on eBay) that will add BT functionality and will work with the factory MMI/MFSW
Might not be so bad after all :)
Re: USB/MP3 Issues - 2G MMI High / 2005 A6
So I've installed the update tonight and it went fine and seems to have significantly reorganised the menu structure - it must have been a very old firmware that was on it.
It's not flawless.. occasionally when selecting the shuffle function on the MMI you need to do it twice but it's a huge improvement and so far anyway it seems to have cured the "reset" symptoms I described above.
Next step will be to get the BT add-on adapter for it and then I'll hopefully be set :)

Excellent, glad it worked :)
