Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
Hi guys,
Hope someone can help me with this.
It has started 3 weeks ago, my car would take a few attempts to start up, it then got progressively got worse and when I was driving it felt like it was about to stall, I took it to the vw specialist garage. They have diagnosed the problem and said it’s the wiring loom.
The next day it got worse as I was driving it seemed like it would cut off and finally it happened, my car got cut off while I was in traffic. Could not start it up or nothing.
The brake down jump started it and I got it to the garage, they done the wiring loom problem and installed a new battery.
I thought this was fixed, until yesterday the same problem has happened again, its struggling to start up and takes 5 or 6 attempts and sometimes when it starts up the engine stalls again.
I took it to the car mechanic; he has diagnosed the problem and cannot find a fault?
Some notes: about 7 weeks ago, a car reversed into me, front bonnet was damaged, got it fixed. That was when the problem started happening, 6 months ago I accidently put in 40p of petrol by accident also the brake down guy said that the car was blowing black smoke but this is when its struggling to start up, he recommended the mechanic see the egr valve. The fuel injectors were replaced by VW last year when I brought it, it was under warranty?
Any help would be fantastic as I am struggling with it at the moment.
Ive added the video on youtube if it helps

Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
An update, my vw specilist who replaced the loom wire have said, they cannot find the issue and could be the fuel injectors and recommend I take it to the VW dealer.
Got a call from the VW dealer who has said nothing is showing up on the computer and he is gussing at the moment so it could be the wires to the fuel injector but want a confirmation from me so they can get the master tech guy to have a look within the 3 hours. which I have (£89 an hour :( ) I have given a go ahead...I hope they get to the bottom of the problem.
does the loom wire replaced sound faulty as I had it replaced, the car was working fine for 4 days and the problem started happening again.
what can the issue be if the problem is not showing on the computer
Help help help :(
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
did you have you fuel filter insert replaced???? if yes is it was black??? it sounds like low fuel pressure on start up.what engine size is your car??
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
its a 2.0 litre Disel, does the fuel filter get replaced when the car gets serviced? I had it serviced last April?
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
it's depend on a garage. fuel filter is due to replace at every 40000 miles. many times people ignore it. and that can cause a problem you gettin. is easy to look up. just unbolt top of filter housing and remove insert. then you can see if is dirty.
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
Thanks Kamil.
I will find out by wedesday what the vw dealers say about the car and what they think the problem is, if nothing I am taking it to my local garage and getting them to check it. just feel abit down because of the whole car situation.
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
And try getting a VCDS Autoscan and post here? That'd give more info as there's many
diesel experts in here. I'm not one!
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
Hi guys
Good news and bad news, the master tech guy has had a look and has said, my injector seals are leaking and this could be the problem when it is cutting out when driving?
what do you guys think
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
There's a free recall for injectors. Check to see whether it applies to your car? VW main agent will tell. Or VWUK
Re: Passat 2006 starting up problems and driving issues
Hi Richard,
I did ask the VW dealer about the injector recall however his telling me these arnt the injectors but the seals..if it was the injectors they would have replaced them free of charge...is this correct???
