Sudden power loss/hesitation
Hi guys,
I'm experiencing some quite worrying problems today.
Car:- 3.0tdi Quattro bmk
Starting from the beginning I had a service on Monday oil change using quantum platinum, air filter,I ran some engine flush, some archoil fuel treatment, and some archoil oil additive.
My fuel was just under half a tank and today it got low to the point of fuel light on and 15 miles left to empty I then topped up to full tank with v power.
Since Monday i had this intermittent problem when flooring it the car would have a sudden instant loss of power all dials on dash would go off for a split second - esp light flashed and brake warning would flash 3 times, mmi would go off and restart to the original radio station it was on when car was first started, then the usual cycle of dash lights would happen ... At the same time the car would drive normally instantly ....
Today however it got worse, a lot worse.
It started happening at lower speeds, or when hitting a large pot hole. Can be replicated too.
So I decided to change fuel filter and cleaned maf. Still happening and car's gear changes seem really hesitant - seems to drive quite rough too.
At one point the entire engine shut down with power steering loss too. Restarted car and it drove fine again albeit kind of rough.
I'll try get a video of the dash sequence when this happens when i get a chance.
I immediately done a vcds scan and will post the faults...however upon clearing them they haven't come back bar one...
Any ideas?
Fault codes are here:--
the only one that has come back after clearing is the alarm horn and the a/c sensor. although the glow plug one seems to be coming back after a few weeks of driving as does the intake manifold runner control
the map is a new one that i haven't seen before since owning this car.
I'm begging to think I've either knocked something near/around the air filter box when doing that or it's some ecu dying somewhere

Re: Sudden power loss/hesitation
So just mechanical changes recently and you're suffering from what seems to be multiple electrical problems?
Have you checked your battery connection and voltage from the alternator?
Erm what's the one that's come back...don't leave us in suspenders!
Re: Sudden power loss/hesitation
not checked battery connection or voltage yet. I'll do it with vcds until I can find my lost multimeter or buy a new one over the next few days...

Re: Sudden power loss/hesitation
Just ordered my VCDS today, but even if I'd had it I'd test the battery/alternator and glow plug connectors first.
You can still do it as it's still light out!

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere.
BTW. Audi state not to use fuel additives, oil aditives or engine flush.
When did you last drain / change your fuel filter ?

Yes I'm beginning to think loose connection.
Happened again twice on a short 3/4 mile journey soon as I hit a slight bump in the road - all power out and instantly back on.
I changed the fuel filter this evening after this started happening as a first point of call.
Why do Audi state that never to use those things? First I've heard of that and always used them inc on my last 4 vag group cars with no ill effect and positive results.

I'm just reading up on that in my hand book.
No biodiesel. = damage to fuel system.
Do not mix fuel additives with the diesel.
Diesel must conform with EN590. Have a cetain number (CN) of at least 51.
No additives should be used with engine oil. Any damage caused by such additives will not be covered by warranty.

No biodiesel. = damage to fuel system. Same applies to all 'normal' diesels surely?
Do not mix fuel additives with the diesel. All Audi drivers best steer clear of Shell V-Power Nitro+ then!
Diesel must conform with EN590. Have a cetain number (CN) of at least 51. Applies to all consumer automotive diesel sold in the UE

Tech is your car in warranty or does it have FASH meaning if there's a failure you may be able to get Audi to contribute?
Re: Sudden power loss/hesitation
Have you had any signs of water inside the car? We are seeing more and more 4F's with the electronics boxes in the plenum chamber doubling up as goldfish bowls and it causes havoc and those fault codes point towards a wet ECU. Mind you you could just have the usual faulty manifold and need some new glow plugs.
Re: Sudden power loss/hesitation
Crasher does the water problem apply equally to saloons as estates?
Only asking as thought it was only Avants...don't know what Tech has though.
